Multifunction inkjet printers are two a penny these days and Epson seem to bring out a new one every week. Their latest is the Stylus SX115 which promises to be the solution to everyday printing, scanning and photocopying needs. It a budget printer and is priced very competitively at under £50 but the purchase price is not the whole story when it comes to the cost of an inkjet printer, running costing in terms of the price of the printer ink cartridges is the most important factor. Epson SX115 ink cartridges consist of four individual ink cartridges which means each colour (black cyan magenta and yellow) has its own cartridge and can be changed independently if and when it has run out. A set of genuine Epson ink cartridges for the SX115 costs around £30, which is not cheap, but is reasonable compared to the other printers in this class. In terms of performance the SX115 is good in some areas and not so good in others, printing speed and operation noise are it weakest points which are to be expected with an inkjet printer at this price. What is not expected however is the print quality produced by the SX115 which is excellent. This is true for all types of documents from basic text to high resolution photographs. The print quality is thanks to the Epson SX115 having a high print resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi which can be exploited when using the correct paper media. The scanner and copier functions of the SX115 are good but nothing to write home about and the built-in memory card reader for printing photos directly from memory card is a bit of a novelty and most people will just find it easier to print their photos from their PC. Built quality of the SX115 is surprisingly good and it is backed up with a 12 months repair or replace warranty.
